Ready-to-assemble (RTA) furniture refers to knock-down or kit furniture that can be built or assembled onsite using simple tools. Some of the commonly available RTA furniture include tables, desks, sofas, chairs, cabinets, wardrobes and beds. They are either shipped flat-packed or unassembled in multiple components and manufactured using wood, glass and steel. RTA furniture is highly functional, requires minimal packaging and can fit into small spaces. They are available in a wide variety of sizes, materials and designs and can be customized as per the requirement of the consumer. The four largest countries in the European market control over 60% of the supply, and the ten largest countries control over 85% (against 80% for the furniture industry).

According to CSIL estimates, the top 50 European furniture manufacturers account for around 25% of the total European furniture production. A polarization exists between the furniture giant IKEA and all other furniture manufacturers with much lower market shares. Considering the total IKEA product supply, about 90% is sourced from external suppliers. Leading European suppliers are Poland, Italy, Lithuania, Germany, and Sweden. IKEA Industry Group’s top five production countries are Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Portugal, and Sweden.
